Failed joke of the day (to me, at least...):
Cab Driver: Everything's going up these days. You see the cab fare for Comfort during peak hours these days is so ex.
Mum: Ya, everything's on the rise. They've raised cab fares, mrt and bus fares...
Cab Driver: Yep, everything's going up, except rain.
Mum: Oh yes, cos rain ALWAYS comes falling down.
Cab Driver: -nods in agreement- Yess!!
Mum: Or the whole world will be upside down!!
Cab Driver and Mum: HAHAHAHA
Me: ??????

Thanks to everyone's really busy schedule, (ppl have medicamp, president scholar's interview, tuition, sailing lessons etc...) been pretty much stuck at home this entire week. Luckily I've borrowed VCDs to watch, or will have been bored to death by now. Eight Below is surprisingly good for a disney movie. Though the movie has few spoken lines, (being essentially centered around the survival of 8 dogs) the dogs' loyalty and teamwork with one another as they overcome starvation and extreme cold was rather heartwarming. :P Think i was not really in the mood to watch The Constant Gardener though. Actually got even more bored watching it, because the pacing is quite slow. Though I guess in the end, it gives us all something to think about: that First World Nations have been so readily exploiting the lives of many ppl in the Third World, whilst the Third World Nation citizens have been unable to retaliate, simply because their corrupt governments have given in to various forms of bribery, and have essentially sold off the lives of their citizens for monetary gain. Hmmm of course I've always known about this, but guess the movie helps put it into perspective, and makes one realise how many cover-ups there were, and probably is in the world's MNCs nowadays, about how many human rights violations there might be, even in a nation which is at the forefront of advocating the Human Rights Act.

Talking about which, turned on the tv to Oprah yesterday, and apparantly the show had successfully moved enough Americans to write in to Congressmen to act against illegal human trafficking, such that a bill had been passed in America to clamp down on such activities. Hmmm the power of the media! :)

Hmm this entry is starting to sound really serious. Anyway, thankfully my mum took a half day's leave today. Initially wanted to catch a movie with my free tixs, but couldn't come to an agreement cos she didn't want to watch Hoodwinked, and I have no intention of catching Nacho Libre. We then noticed that Century Square had another movie, Mortuary, but haha, my mum was darn against it:

Mum: It's NC-16, cannot watch
Me: Huh why? I'm 18 already.
Mum: No not you, I cannot watch.
Me: ??
Mum: It's NC-16..The gore...and the violence...I don't think i can tahan...

Haha wells, since we couldn't come to agreement, ended up just shopping around at parkway, trying to find some last minute bargains before GSS ends. Oh my ban on sleeveless tops has been temporarily lifted! YAYY!! Pity it's one of those days where you can't find anything nice when you want to. Didn't see a single sleeveless top that I really liked, and isn't so low-cut that i'll cause the ban to be reestablished again. Sad.
