Falling sick on the last week of hols must be one of the most sucky things to happen...Was intially planning on going out as much as possible this week...but ended up being stuck at home and nursing my flu. Bleah. And hence the lack of blog entries...Unless you want to hear about the number of games I've been playing on gunbound while killing my time at home, there's basically been pretty much nothing else i've been doing all week. :P
Read The God of Small Things, and finishing The Kite Runner though. Didn't really think too much of the former. Understandably, the descriptive writing was brillant, and it gives an insight into the hierarchy system present in India, and how it hinders certain forbidden relationships as put down by the so-called "love laws", but in the end, the slow pacing made the storytelling somewhat dull. The Kite Runner is really great though. Showcases the themes of honour, guilt, loyalty, betrayal, love and redemption with the simple narration through the eyes of the main character, Amir. National Libarary Board is promoting this book too, for some reason, but I feel it's a good read to anyone who wants to expand his/her literary repertoire. :P
Anyway, boring home life aside, finally got somewhat better yesterday, and so met up with Serene and Lilian for lunch at wisma. Lilian's comment when she just met me, "Xinling, you look pale!" wasn't too encouraging, but luckily i didn't feel my flu get any worse, and by evening, she said i was looking better! :P Learned that Serene and Jen are going to be staying at the same hostel at LSE though (haha yet ANOTHER person i know going LSE...) Hmmm small world! :P
Then caught The Lake House with lilian. Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves really make a good pair, having great on-screen chemistry reminiscent of their previous pairing in Speed. And somehow I feel that Keanu Reeves is one of the few actors who can say all those romantic lines with conviction and make it sound believeable instead of being cheesy. Overall, a film worth watching, although the ending was quite confusing, and as Lilian and I have agreed, simply not possible. Haha, but loopholes aside, not bad a romance movie! :)
