Yesterday:
Had a double birthday surprise for xj and bern. As with most bday surprises, most things didn't exactly go according to plan...but thankfully it turned out rather successful! (at least i thought so. :P)
The plan:
PY and i would rush off to town after crim (considering how hor usually ends early) to grab xj's present and the bday cake, before heading to heeren, where we'd deposit the cake at billy bombers before meeting xj to go get bern's present. Then, the three of us would head to billy bombers to meet up with bern for the double surprise.
PY also sent me an SMS over lunch that when bern arrived, we would ask xj whether 'we shall do it now', to which she would (we hoped) give her usual reply 'i don't know', and we'd then throw 'The Book of Answers' (her present) at her to let her come to a decision. :P
What actually happened:
Turned out crim A ended earlier than expected. As PY and I were still on 171 to taka, xj called to say that she had ended and 'where are you?', to which py went: 'err...we're in town', even with the bus making all these HUGE rumbling sounds. So, in a somewhat panicked state, PY and i rushed to kino to grab 'The Book of Ans' (which we found after MUCH searching...Who would have thought that it was under 'New Age' instead of 'Self Help'? :P), and then to Bakerzin at the basement to get a tirimisu cake. By which time, xj had ALREADY reached heeren, and PY and I promptly started 'missing calls'. We then decided that we were acting too suspicious, so I was to go find xj at heeren first and drag her into hmv, so PY could make her way up to billy bombers without being seen.
Apparantly there was some accessories sale on the third floor of heeren though, such that xj was super distracted. After i stoned outside hmv for a considerable amount of time...saw PY making her way up the floors...and frantically told her to not go up anymore. Haha, in her panic, she zoomed into the nearest hiding place (the stairwell), which i assumed to be rather good to hide in. But apparantly it had superb lack of ventilation, and about a min later, PY couldn't tahan anymore, and called me asking 'is xj with you? huh she's not? i'm DARN HOT here!!' :P Haha, then poor her had to scoot off (after i made sure the coast was clear) to the nearest shop (adidas) and hide herself behind one of the shelfs with her head poking out, where we must have looked like two idiots talking with each other over our handphones, even though we were just like 10m apart. :P
Bern was REALLY late though (haha as usual). After PY, XJ (who eventually DID turn up so PY could make her way up to bily bombers. :P) and I had gotten her present (a set of four shot glasses) and had settled in to our 4-course set meal at billy bombers, she still hadn't arrived. We kept calling her at 30min intervals, to which she told us that she was 'getting out of her house'. Clearly that process is, as bern always says, really complicated. :P When she finally arrived...
Bern: hey guys! Guess what? I have whiskey with me now!
PY and I: shall we do it now?
XJ: huh? -blink blink-
PY and I: -can't stop laughing-
Bern and XJ: -looks at us as if we'd gone mad-
PY and I: XJ, happy belated birthday! -gives her present- So...shall we do it now? -still laughing-
XJ: -blank look- huh?
Bern: do you know what they are talking about?
PY: you know...whiskey? hahaha.
XJ: -still looks confused-
Bern: oh ya...i have whiskey! You guys can have some you know...
Haha, so ended up giving BERN the present like a CONSIDERABLE amount of time later, when it became clear that things REALLY weren't going to go according to plan, and when PY and I had managed to control our constant laughing at our failed attempts. Managed to surprise both of them with the cake that the waitress brought out though...and being obliging ppl, PY and I sang birthday songs, complete with out-of-tune singing and off-rhythm clapping (which...omg...XJ and bern RECORDED down with their handphones) Haha, both of us also made bern and xj do silly things though, like the whole cliched let's-hold-the-knife-together-as-we-cut-the-cake thingy, and making each of them blow out ONE of the two candles. :P

Today:
Met up with Lilian in town to go catch 'Music and Lyrics'. However, true to my i'm-fated-to-only-have-watched-two-movies-this-year curse, it was either no longer showing, or the tixs were all sold out, even as Lilian and i tried all possible choices from Lido and Cine, to Plaza Sing. (yes...that's how FAR we went.) Sighh...My movie-going outings this year are simply pathetic.
On a brighter note, i FINALLY got my hands on 'How to Save a Life' by The Fray. And it wasn't even that difficult to find at the Gramaphone outlet at Taka. All i had to do was step into the shop, and -tada-, it was right there in front of my eyes! Man...i should have just boycotted HMV right from the start and headed straight for Gramaphone outlets. :P
