do ut des...

is it wrong to expect something in return for the favour you have bestowed upon a fellow being? a tit for tat, one might say.

when you say that you love someone unconditionally, does it mean that you love with an unrequited heart, or do you expect the same measure of love in return? when you give to the poor, are you able to say that you have given with unreciprocated generosity, even though reciprocation is usually deeply desired? or are you simply and perhaps, naively believing in the plain old saying that good begets good(and therefore, triumphs evil)? when you wait for something, are you waiting with an open heart(and an open mind), or are you waiting with a goal in mind?

it takes two hands to make a clap. most things function like a two-way traffic; cynical as it may sound, from a pragmatic point of view in a societal context, giving in lack of expectance is a passe. it aint selfish, neither is it covetous. granted, human beings are covetous creatures who crave. but deep down inside us, we expect recognition and something in return for the good favours that we do. in a society worn down by The Race, have we also started to dehumanize ourselves and don a mask of false pretence? can we ever connect with someone with genuine intimacy anymore?

too many questions, with too many answers. and too many gaps to fill.

i like the analogy though; It is not unlawful per se for a boss to ask a subordinate for sex, nor vice versa, it is the quid pro quo that makes the situation repugnant to the law.
